Yan-Li and Calcifer

Yan-Li is a very gifted free diving instructor from China, easily reaching 40m, and a spearo since several years. Yan-Li is based in Bali, Indonesia.

A friend of mine introduced me Yan-Li. With her gift, she gets close to the big fish, on the FADs, on the deep drop-offs, but she did not find a gun powerful enough that she could use.

I recommended her to order a SIGMA 115 invert roller. The gun can be set-up so it is very easy to load, but rigged with an 8.5mm shaft, it has a tremendous impact stunning the fish and making fish retrieval much easier.

Yan-Li receied her SIGMA and had a very good start. She named it Calcifer, the name of a fire demon.

The moment I met Calcifer (TEAKSEA SIGMA115) is a turning point of my life. I finally started to land big fish as I want!

There is a very famous saying in China; “Confucius to do good work, must first sharpen his tools.”  So since the beginning of me starting my spearfishing trips, I spent long time searching for a gun that matched me; I tried so many guns that did not, and lost so many good fishes.

Why is it so difficult for me to find a gun match?

-I want a strong gun to shoot big powerful fishes such as dogtooth tuna and marlin because I am mostly diving in the blue water and reef area with strong currents.

-It has to be easy for me to load (162cm,55kg, short and weak arms). With most powerful guns, I will have trouble loading the first rubber band because of my short arms, either I ended up damaging my pectoral muscle, or I cannot load the gun.

-I have hyperextended elbows, so I can’t hold any gun with recoils.
